Operculicarya pachypus
Say that 10x fast =) Endemic to Madagascar and grows in sandy calcareous soils in low dry forest. Flowers are small yellowish-green. We love this species for its mesmerizing and elongated, segmented drop-shaped leaves and its chunky caudex that continues to form over time.
Philodendron tortum
Endemic to the rainforests of Brazil and Bolivia, where it grows as en epiphyte on the trunks and branches of other trees. A rare bloomer, its flower has a small green spathe that wraps around a cream spadix. We love this species for its elongated leaves that resemble a fern, with new leaves that unfurl in a corkscrew pattern and sporting an orange tint.
Eulophia petersii aka Desert Orchid
Endemic to the Arabian Peninsula and sub-Saharan Africa. A robust terrestrial orchid that grows in arid, low altitude, granite domes or rocky outcrops, but also in exposed places amongst grass. Flowers vary in color ranging from from white to pink or purple, with a musky scent. We love this orchid outlier for its drought tolerance, living side-by-side in the same conditions as cacti and succulents in cultivation.
