A nursery cultivar with wild origins in central eastern Mexico (Guanajuato to Querétaro, San Luis Potosí, and Hidalgo), it thrives in warm, arid climates on rocky limestone slopes in dry forests and juniper scrub. Young plants have a few spines that disappear with maturity. As they age, multiple heads form, creating large clumps. Yellow, funnel-shaped flowers bloom in early spring and summer.
Plant is in 4" pot.
