Native to Taolanaro, southern Madagascar, this plant grows in subtropical dry forests and shrublands at low elevations below 200 feet, primarily on sand dunes near the Vinanibe coast. Its leaf shapes and colors vary with the seasons. The large flowers range from yellowish-green to pinkish, with yellow nectar glands. As a hexaploid, each plant is genetically unique with six times the normal chromosome count.
