Native to Ethiopia, Kenya, Somalia, and Uganda, this member of the cucumber family (Cucurbitaceae) thrives in semiarid environments, deciduous woodlands, and sandy bushlands. It produces yellow or cream-colored flowers that mature into orange-red fruits. The trailing leaves emerge from a main caudex, resembling a mountain-shaped candle with wax-like foliage. The species epithet "ecirrhosa" means "without tendrils."
