The Quiver Tree (Aloe dichotoma) is native to the Northern Cape of South Africa and southern Namibia. Thriving in desert environments, it is well adapted to withstand hot temperatures ranging from 55°F to 85°F, with summer highs averaging around 100°F These unique aloes grow in semi-desert to desert regions with minimal winter rainfall, often found in black rock formations called Ysterklip, which absorb and retain heat. Their canary-yellow flowers bloom on a loose, branching panicle up to 30 cm tall. Though smaller and less showy than other aloe species, the blossoms produce abundant nectar, attracting birds, insects, and even baboons, which often strip the plant of its flowers, making their bloom short-lived. Resembling a tree with its thick stalk and branching segments, Aloe dichotoma creates a striking "forest" effect in arid landscapes.
