GAS 2 SF

April 5 - June 9, 2025

Public Land Gallery is excited to present "GAS 2 SF," a group photo exhibition curated by San Francisco-based multi-disciplinary artist Bill Daniel featuring fellow lackadasicals, with a film screening of his durable movie "Who is Bozo Texino?." An inconclusive collection of artists seemingly obsessed with getting from here to there—without any reasonable explanation why, except perhaps for the possibility of something skatable, markable, or catchable along the way.

Featuring work by Mike Brodie, Mia Justice Smith, R.Virgel, Tobin Yelland, John Longyear, Karoline Collins, Brad Wescott, David Eberhardt, Xara Thustra, Monica Canilao, Abby banks,  Sluto, Droid 907, Max Otake,  Ivy Jeanne McClellan and Anson Cyr. Plus, a 20th-century hobo journalism display by (unlicensed) media historian Dave H.

Artist Bio:

A 2008 Guggenheim Fellow, Daniel has received awards from Creative Capital, Film Arts Foundation, and others. His residencies include Yerba Buena Center for the Arts (through the Wattis Foundation), where he exhibited "Souls Harbor," and Headlands Center for the Arts, where he collaborated with Margaret Kilgallen on "Trespassing Sign." His hobo campfire installation, "The Girl on the Train in the Moon," was featured in an exhibition at Deitch Projects. The third edition of his seminal book, Mostly True, about hobo graffiti, was released in 2023 through Microcosm Publishing.

A veteran of the DIY touring circuit, Daniel has curated mobile art shows, organized Funhouse Cinema in Texas, and worked as a cinematographer for Craig Baldwin. His projects span zines (Detour, The Western Roundup), experimental sports (Texas Gas-Powered Leaf Blower Hockey Association), and the creation of alternative spaces. His work has been exhibited at MoMA, The New Museum, MCA Los Angeles, Walker Art Center, IFFR Rotterdam, Jeffrey Deitch Gallery, Art in the Streets, New Image Gallery, Beyond The Streets, and countless underground venues nationwide. Daniel has also led several talks and lecture series at various academic institutions.
